Orange Shrimp

Category: (News), Date: (24, Nov, 2008)
Author: (Dan - TheShrimpFarm.com)

Most shrimp that are acquired by TheShrimpFarm.com come from online suppliers (readers, sellers, auctions ect..) but every now and then I find some shrimp at local stores. A trip to PetCo not to long ago resulted in the purchase of 6 Orange Shrimp.

Orange Shrimp

These shrimp were labled as Orange Cherry Shrimp (they are obviously not a Cherry Shrimp of any type) and had a species label of Neocaridina sp.

I decided I would buy these shrimp and see how long the color lasts and if the color is passed on to the offspring. Sadly, it turns out I only have females. This is often the case when it comes to buying shrimp from stores. The females are often the larger and more colorful so they are the only ones they sell.

I am going to keep a close eye on them and see if the color stays and for how long. I am also going to keep an eye on PetCo to see if any males show up!
