Micro CrabsTheShrimpFarm.com’s hatchery has added a new species today, while not a Dwarf Shrimp, it is a rather small freshwater aquatic invertabrate.
Micro Crab (Limnopilos naiyanetri)
We imported 12 of these tiny crabs. They are said to be 100% aquatic and breed similar to high order Dwarf Shrimp. They are currently in a dedicated aquarium and under close observation. These crabs are very difficult to photograph as they are very small, ½ inch full grown, and most of the crabs that I have are less than full grown.
I will update often, and if I observe any breeding activity or a female carrying a clutch that information will be updated immediately. If you are already keeping this amazing animal, please let me know your experiences. If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!No related posts. |

Hi there,
nice to see that someone else is having these and showing it in the Internet. I have bought 6 of these in a shop (www.naturline.com) here in Portugal. What water parameters do you have? My temperature is 25ºC, Ph6,5 ,Kh 2, Gh6. I’m trying to get the Kh and Ph a litte up to Ph7 with Sodium Bicarbonate. The hide very well, don’t you think? And they seem to move a little slow while the walk around. I have them with Neocaridina, Caridina “Tiger”, and Atyaephyra Desmaresti which are here from Portugal.
Have you got more pictures?
Greetings from Portugal.

Hi from France,
I also got 10 of these lil critters. I put mine in a 5 gallons aquarium with red cherrys. my temperature is 25°C (about 86°F?), pH 6,8 Kh 1 Gh 3. I thought as they are from thailand, they may thrive in the same parameters as my betta sp mahachai, so I matched the parameters of my bettas. please keep us posted and do not hesitate to visit my blog and comment, so we can keep each other posted on our progress with these micro crabs.
I noticed they move fast when in slighty dark spots of the fish tank and “freeze” whn in big light and move slower. they love to hang in the roots of pistia stratiotes and walk beneath the leaves of my dwarf cryptos.
no egg carying right now, but i have them since less than a week. but they already start to settle and be less shy.
Best Regards,
Pecky

Hello,
we bought five of them last week, one of them was a female carrying eggs.
the only problem is that they are a bit shy and like to cover them in our liver-moss (Pelia). I hope the reproduction does not pass by a larval stade, I guess we will see in a few days. We are keeping them with other shrimp. (mainly crystal reds). I am searching the internet for more info on the crabs but their is not much to find yet…

I was watching mine travel around the aquarium picking stuff off the substrate at night, and I saw one of them grab and eat a water flea very quickly. I’ve also seen them fighting a bit amongst themselves, usually when they first meet up. I guess it takes them a second to recognize each other.
