Ordering at The Shrimp Farm

At The Shrimp Farm, we take the uppermost care to make sure your shrimps arrive in the best possible conditions so you can enjoy your new aquarium friends in the best way possible. On this page, we’ll explain the ordering and shipping process.

Standard flat-rate shipping

Orders placed with our standard flat rate shipping option will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail on Monday and Tuesday. While USPS does not offer a guarantee on delivery, it is an estimated 1-3 business days. Click here to view the estimated transit time for an order to arrive at your door.

All orders placed with standard flat-rate shipping are shipped on Monday and Tuesday only. We do this to make sure your orders do not get delayed and/or stuck at the shipping office over the weekend. Delays can cause the shrimp to die, and we can all agree no one wants dead shrimp! While we have had shrimp live up to 11 days in the box with 0 DOA, we have also had express mail orders where all the shrimp died. It truly depends on how the package is cared for by the shipping carrier.

(We reserve the right to hold your shipments in the case of extreme weather)

Express mail shipping

Orders placed with our express mail options will be shipped from Monday to Thursday and are estimated to take 1-2 business days for delivery. This option is recommended for those who want their shrimp to arrive quickly and with more certainty.

Tracking your order

A tracking number is emailed to you at the time of shipment. We will email you once the package has left the USPS sorting facility, once it is out for delivery, and once it has been delivered. Please note that there is sometimes a delay with our "out for delivery" email, as USPS does not always scan the box right away. If, in the unfortunate event, your package gets delayed or the tracking has stood still in the same location for 24+ hours, please feel free to contact us. We recommend that you call your local USPS office and give them your tracking number, as they may be able to provide you with more information on the delay and where your package is. In our experience, all packages will eventually show up.

Winter shipping

We take great pride in getting your shrimp to you in not only a timely manner but the safest way possible. So, if the temperature is within a particular cold range, we will always include a heat pack at NO extra charge.

During the winter months, we utilize up to two forms of insulation (loose insulation and/or a Styrofoam inner container). This method has allowed us to send shrimp to areas in the US where nightly lows were in the single digits. This Styrofoam inner container custom fits our cardboard outer containers and seals extremely well with a unique (almost air-tight) seal that utilizes a special overlapping-joint-design....drastically reducing the effects of the outside temperatures.

If all else fails and you do receive a DOA (Dead On Arrival) shrimp, we will refund accordingly. Please Click here for our Live Arrival Guarantee Policy.

Summer shipping

The Shrimp Farm successfully ships our aquarium shrimp in temperatures up to 100° F. Along with cold packs, we utilize the same unique, molded Styrofoam shipping container that is mentioned above. This special Styrofoam box seals extremely well and drastically reduces the effects of the outside temperatures. This method allows us the ability to get your shrimp to their destination, alive and well!

If all else fails and you do receive a DOA (Dead On Arrival) shrimp, we will refund accordingly. Please Click here for our Live Arrival Guarantee Policy.

Acclimating shrimp on delivery

When adding your newly arrived shrimp into your established already existing tank, it is important to take the proper steps in introducing and acclimating them into their new home. The whole process is extremely stressful for the shrimp. Acclimation is important for shrimp as it allows them time to adjust to the temperature and parameters of their new environment. By doing this correctly, you will reduce the chances of shock or death of your new shrimps. You’ll receive an instructions guide with your order, and you can find the step-by-step process of acclimating shrimp here.
