One of the most important factors to consider when setting up a Dwarf Shrimp aquarium is filtration. Stable water parameters are essential to health and longevity of shrimp and a good filter helps keep parameters stable.

The first step in setting up a Dwarf Shrimp aquarium is selecting that aquarium. There are endless options on the market to choose from, but luckily Dwarf Shrimp are undemanding when it comes to aquarium size, shape and materials.

Freshwater Dwarf Shrimp are fairly undemanding when it comes basic care. For the most part they do not require large aquariums, complicated setups or constant attention. What they do require is stable water parameters, good filtration and a comfortable environment.

One of the biggest problems in the aquarium hobby is the release of non-native species into local waters. Many times these species will die off quickly, but sometimes they will establish a large population and all but eliminate the native populations.

I have been growing spinach in my garden for the entire winter here in Central Florida and now that I am about tired of eating it I have started to feed it to my shrimp. I just blanch it and throw it in the aquariums and the shrimp LOVE it!

It has been recently brought to my attention that most (if not all) species of Dwarf Shrimp are illegal in the state of Maine. But why and should they be?
