  • Pics of Ghost Shrimp Larvae

    Posted on July 31, 2012 by Brad-Owner

These two pics are of new ghost shrimp larvae. They are only about 1/8" long. The interesting thing about these young, are they have no legs yet, and float around with the current, UPSIDE DOWN.

Very cool to watch....BUT HARD TO SEE!!!!

  • Self Cloning Crayfish (update 2)

    Posted on December 6, 2008 by Brad-Owner

The baby Self Cloning Crayfish are all over the aquarium now. They have become quite inquisitive and hungry. Whenever I feed them, they rush to the food and gather in large groups.
Just to show some scale on how big they are, here are a few pictures:

    Let the clone wars begin!

    Self Cloning Crayfish Baby

The Self Cloning Crayfish are out and about on their own now! I was able to snap a picture of one of the babies. They are small enough to easily fit inside a straw from the fast food chain Wendy’s!
I am going to have to set up a [...]

  • Self Cloning Crayfish (update 1)

    Posted on December 3, 2008 by Brad-Owner

Self Cloning Crayfish are normally very charismatic and outgoing. They spend a lot of time foraging and will often times react to an aquarist coming near the aquarium with what I call a two-claw salute (they raise their claws up in a defensive position). But, when the Self Cloning Crayfish becomes berried [...]

  • Breeding Amano Shrimp – Journal – The restart!

    Posted on September 30, 2008 by Brad-Owner

Last night I performed a fairly large water change in my Amano Shrimp aquarium and noticed some frantic breeding behavior by the males. This morning I found this:

    Berried Amano Shrimp
This is the largest female I have and she is carrying a large amount of eggs. The more larva she hatches the better chance I have [...]

  • Breeding Amano Shrimp – Journal (time to restart)

    Posted on September 23, 2008 by Brad-Owner

Well, as I have mentioned in previous posts I was out of town for quite some time. While I was out of town my Amano Shrimp that was at one time berried is no longer berried! I found no evidence of her dropping the eggs so I am going to assume that they hatched.

    Female Amano [...]

  • Breeding Amano Shrimp Journal – Day 1

    Posted on August 22, 2008 by Brad-Owner

    Day 1 - 8/22/08

Today I observed a berried Amano Shrimp.  The berried female is about average size for the females in my aquarium.  Her eggs are extremely small, almost see threw with a slight tan tint.

After first observation I started to prepare an isolation aquarium for her.  I selected an old 2-gallon [...]

  • Soft Water Shrimp in Hard Water (update #3)

    Posted on July 21, 2008 by Brad-Owner

I have found another berried female in my soft water aquarium! That makes a total of 3 females that are now berried!

    Berried Tiger Shrimp

This female is the smallest of the 3, but it looks like she is carrying close to the same amount of eggs as the other females.

There are still no berried [...]
