Phoenix Rasbora Behavior

Phoenix Rasboras are micropredator eaters.  They will easily accept high-quality dry and frozen foods of appropriate size.  We recommend a varied diet for optimal health and coloration.

Phoenix Rasboras are popular due to their incredibly peaceful temperament and ability to safely be kept with other non-aggressive fish and even shrimp!  They are often found swimming on the top and middle layers of the aquarium, but will occasionally go to the bottom layer for feeding as well.

Phoenix Rasbora Care

A varied diet is the key to a thriving and vibrantly colored phoenix rasbora. A high-quality and well-balanced diet including a variety of protein-rich foods, such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia, as well as vegetable matter, such as spirulina flakes or blanched spinach will help provide optimal coloration and energy for your fish. It is recommended to feed small amounts of food several times a day, rather than one large feeding. Find out more about Dwarf Orange  Crayfish in The Shrimp Farm University.

Is Phoenix Rasboras easy to Breed?

Phoenix Rasboras are considered difficult to breed in captivity due to their specific breeding requirements. They require specific water conditions, including soft, acidic water, as well as specific foods and lighting conditions to trigger breeding. Additionally, they are known to eat their own eggs and fry, making it challenging to rear young. Due to these factors, breeding Phoenix Rasboras is not recommended for beginner aquarists.

Phoenix Rasboras are omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods, including flake, pellet, and frozen foods. They have a small mouth, so it is recommended to feed them small-sized foods. Their diet should be well-balanced and include a variety of protein-rich foods, such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia, as well as vegetable matter, such as spirulina flakes or blanched spinach. It is recommended to feed small amounts of food several times a day, rather than one large feeding.

What are the best tankmates for Phoenix Rasboras?

Phoenix Rasboras are peaceful and can live with other peaceful species in a community tank. Good tankmates include small tetras, rasboras, and shrimp. It is important to avoid larger or aggressive fish that may intimidate or harass the Phoenix Rasboras. Additionally, it is recommended to keep them in groups of at least six individuals, as this will help them feel secure and reduce stress.

What is the best way to Acclimate my new Phoenix Rasboras?

The best way to acclimate new Phoenix Rasboras is to float the bag in the aquarium for about 20-30 minutes to allow the temperature to equalize, and then gradually add small amounts of aquarium water to the bag over the course of 15-20 minutes. Once the water volume in the bag has doubled, the fish can be safely released into the aquarium.
