Rabbit Snails Diet

The rabbit snail in general is considered a ferocious eater. They feed on most all soft algae growing in your freshwater tank. They will feed off of sinking pellets than have gone as leftover food in your substrate. They also feed on decaying plant matter. Some people have observed them eating java ferns and other aquarium plants from time to time.

Supplemental feeding of green leafy supplements like blanched green zucchini or other blanched green leafy vegetables is ideal. Sometimes the naturally occurring foods in your aquarium may not be enough. Crushed coral and algae wafers are also common things to feed your rabbit snail.

Rabbit Snail Breeding

Breeding rabbit snails is not a diffcult task. If the freshwater tanks provided conditions meet the needs of these snails they will produce baby snails fairly easily for you. Baby rabbit snails are mini-versions of their parents. Rabbit snails only give birth to one baby snail at a time.

Be sure to keep your filter intakes covered. Power filter intakes are known to suck up baby snails easily. If you end up with too many rabbit snails often times local pet stores will take them and give you store credit for them.

Rabbit Snail Tank Mates

These very peaceful creatures are easy to keep with many other tank mates. Keeping rabbit snails with other freshwater snails like pond snails, trumpet snail, mystery snails, nerite snails are fine! Assassin snails however will try and eat rabbit snails, so it is best to not keep them in the same tank. Small Nano fish like Rasbora's are also good tank mates. Keeping rabbit snails with aquatic plants is fine however if not fed well they may try and nibble on the plants.
